RASUWA, NEPAL — A catastrophic flash flood tore through Nepal’s Rasuwa District on Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026, after a massive surge of water entered the Bhote Koshi River from the Tibetan side of the border. The flood struck without warning around 9:00 AM local time, sweeping through the mountain towns of Timure and Syabrubesi, obliterating market areas, hydropower infrastructure, and riverside settlements.
Preliminary reports suggest that around 1,000 people may have been swept away or displaced, though the figure remains officially unconfirmed as rescue operations continue in difficult terrain. Three bodies have been recovered so far by the Nepal Army, with 12 individuals rescued as of early afternoon.

The Nepal Army is leading ground-level rescue efforts in Rasuwa, while the Flood Forecasting Division continues issuing real-time bulletins as the flood wave travels downstream.
